Meijer Scholar Athlete: James Dykema- Northview H.S.
GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WZZM)- Whether it's throwing touchdowns, ranking for a Lacrosse ball, or repping out sets for his state power lifting competition, Northview senior James Dykema does it all with all he has. And his hard work doesn't stop there. He's balanced his schoolwork and sports to earn a GPA of 4.09. "Books always comes first," says James, who also tutors other students. "It doesn't matter if I'm up late or have to be at practice all hours of the night, school always comes first. You have to get your work done then you can play."
James is a well-rounded athlete at Northview: as quarterback for the Wildcats, he was named captain all four years he played and just this year lead Northview to the best football record the school has seen in five years. James has also been part of the Lacrosse team since it began two years ago and has been a starter ever since. He has also found time between all the sports and school work to place two years in a row at the state power lifting competitions. After graduation, James plans on attending either Michigan or Michigan State to seek a degree in business or accounting. "I've always been a Michigan fan and really always dreamed to go there so my application is in, but I'm debating whether I want to go there or Michigan State. So it should be an interesting decision coming this spring."
Congratulations to James Dykema our WZZM/Meijer Scholar Athlete of the Week. If you know someone you'd like to nominate for Scholar Athlete of the Week, fill out a nomination form here on WZZM 13.com
