Holland school seeing success with bullying progam HOLLAND, Mich. (WZZM) - Vanderbilt Charter Academy in Holland is using a special program to prevent student bullying and violence. "Second Step" teaches students how to deal with emotions in healthy ways, through lessons with stories, discussions and role playing. Kidnergarten through sixth graders study three units: empathy, problem solving, and anger management - all taught by the school's social worker, Tamra Japenga. "The whole hope in this is that we're teaching kids how to get along with others," says Japenga, "learning better ways to solve problems with each other, particularly maybe on the playground or in the classroom, and helping them learn some different ways of dealing with stress and anger and frustration." The school is seeing good progress in the students and hope to expand it to the seventh and eighth graders next year
