New 63rd District Court Dedicated GRAND RAPIDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM)- The public got its first peek inside the news state of the art 63rd District Court Thursday. After months of construction and even more months of controversy, this morning the court held a dedication ceremony to mark the official opening. The new courthouse was built to consolidate the Northern District Court in Rockford and the Cascade Courthouse into one centralized location. You may remember the city of Rockford sued to block relocation of its court and is currently waiting for a decision from the court of appeals. Judge Steven Servaas of the 63rd District Court in Rockford says, "At this point, I am not criticizing anything but it would seem until there was a court decision on this that maybe we should have waiting before we spent the money to build the new courthouse." Judge Sara Smolenski says she is proud of the new courthouse and anxious to start work there. Move-in day is November 11.
