Grand Haven Bucking the Odds GRAND HAVEN, MI (WZZM)- On a clear Friday night on September 25th, a fairy tale story of a football team in Grand Haven was halted. The Grand Haven Buccaneers lost their bid for an undefeated season as the Rockford Rams shut them out 14-0. But like Ali and Frazier these two heavy hitting teams were bound to meet again. This time to decide who the district champion will be and who goes on to round three of the playoffs. The rematch is scheduled for 7pm Friday at Ted Carlson Stadium. Grand Haven's defense was its usual stout self that night holding the Rams scoreless through the first half. And an early second half drive took the Bucs down near the Rockford goalline with a chance to take the lead. Instead, it was Rockford's defense that stiffened and held the Bucs off the scoreboard. "We have to eliminate mistakes," says junior quarterback Adam Poel. "We made some pretty key mistakes in that game and they capitalized, you know they're a great team and the good teams will do that. If we can eliminate our mistakes, hopefully the outcome will be different." Grand Haven is in the second round of the playoffs for the first time since 1999, when it was eliminated by Rockford. The Bucs' long playoff drought is over and forgotten in the mind of head coach Mike Farley. "I feel like regardless of records or where anybody's at right now, it's two of the top O-K Red football schools that finished first and second in the conference are going to do battle this Friday night. Records don't matter and there's a district championship at stake and I know our kids are going to be ready." The heavy hitting bout will take place this Friday at 7:00 pm inside Ted Carlson Stadium, where Ralph Munger and the Rams will be waiting.
