'Person of Interest' in Newaygo County murder pleads to lesser charges in another case WHITE CLOUD, Mich. (WZZM) - A man with ties to the investigation of the murder of a Newaygo County girl has pleaded no contest to an assault charge in another case. Cecil Wallis Junior pleaded no contest to a charge of "Assault- less than murder" in a case where he allegedly duct taped and beat three women. Charges of unlawful imprisonment and assault and battery were dismissed. He will be sentenced on December 29th. Wallis was arrested in April. 13 year old Amanda Lankey was spending the night at the Wallis home the night she disappeared in 2004. She was visiting Wallis's stepsister. Newaygo County Sheriff Mike Mercer said at the time that Wallis was a "person of interest" in the Lankey case, but there are many "people of interest" in the case.
