Former Grand Haven officer sentenced to jail, probation for sex on the job GRAND HAVEN (WZZM) - A former Grand Haven officer has been sentenced to 60 days in jail and 24 months of probation after taking advantage of women while on duty.
Court documents reveal Thomas Carey, a 20-year veteran with the public safety department, used his position to get women to perform sex acts with him in public places while on the clock.
In October, the 46-year-old pleaded no contest to charges of gross indecency and misconduct while in office.
Carey offered an apology before the judge handed down his sentence Monday morning. "I apologize to the victims, my family, my profession, and my community. I will continue to work on issues in my life that have caused me to make some wrong choices in my life."
Special prosecutor, William Forsyth says Carey will never serve as a police officer again. "He's now got two convictions, he can't get them expunged off his record, and he has no more certifications to be an officer anymore."
