Lakeshore man discovers sink hole and more in backyard Zeeland, Mich (WZZM) -- A Zeeland man thinks he made quite the discovery over the weekend after heavy rain caused an 8-foot sink hole in his back yard. John Winegar says when he went outside to check out the hole he spotted something that looked like a tunnel inside. Winegar says his house dates back to the late 1920's. And despite having a huge hole in his back yard, he says the whole experience is pretty cool. "Oh I think it is awesome because it looking like a well the only thing I can imagine is that little wooden bucket people drop down with a rope and pull the water back up pretty cool to me," said Winegar. He says he plans to call his insurance company and the historical board Monday to inspect his discovery. He predicts repairs will be costly especially since he's sure where most of the earth from the ground disappeared in the sink hole.
The father of 3 climbed down to get a closer look and discovered what he believes is an historic well.
