Muskegon Heights Police Chief dies unexpectedly

MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the death of the 47-year-old police chief of Muskegon Heights, although they say it initially appears to have resulted from natural causes.

Clifton Johnson died Sunday morning at his home in the city, which is next to Muskegon.

The Muskegon Heights native joined the city's police department in 1988 and was appointed interim chief in June 2005. The City Council hired him as chief the following year.
