Governor ready to wrap up action on 6 remaining budget bills


LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Gov. Jennifer Granholm is getting ready to wrap up action on the six remaining budget bills on her desk.


The governor's office on Thursday scheduled an 11 a.m. Friday conference call with reporters to discuss what are expected to be vetoes to portions of the bills.


The Democratic governor has signed most of the bills for the budget year that began Oct. 1, these six still await her signature.


The state is operating under an interim budget that expires late Saturday.


Granholm wants more revenue to restore a college scholarship program and other spending and plans to veto portions of the bills she doesn't like.


GOP Senate Majority Leader Mike Bishop has warned that any money cut from the budget bills won't be replaced.
